Arrival of Container Cranes

 The arrival of two container cranes to the Port of Saint John reinforces the recent talk that Saint John's industrial harbour is growing and thriving.

Harbour Passage Addition

Earlier this year a new section was added to Harbour Passage along the western edge of Long Wharf. The addition was completed by Port Saint John.  

 

 

This allows for a new perspective/view point on the Harbour.

The Port of Saint John is undergoing a modernization. Part of that involves upgrading to these post panamax gantry cranes.

Work going on at the port.

Province backs Port upgrade

The CBC reported yesterday that the province will direct some funds to the Saint John Port Authority’s plans to upgrade the capacity of the Saint John container terminals.

It will be good to see these upgrades take shape.

Dredging (or some other barge crane utilization)

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is part of the dredging process that allows Courtney Bay to be utilized by ships. Or fishing, if our comment leaving friend is correct.

Homeport

The Saint John Port Authority put out a press release explaining that they have engage a consultant to study the viable of Saint John as a homeport from where cruises launch.

I think the potential for greater tourism revenue is worth exploring and hope they can figure out a way to make this a viable option, as the port continues to pursue increased revenues.
