Acquatic Centre

I am nearly 3 months into a membership at the Aquatic Centre. It's the first gym I've joined and I mainly use the pool services. Even though only a small percentage of greater Saint John residents use the Aquatic Centre, I am of the mind that this is a valuable recreational facility for the uptown and the greater community. I live uptown and walk to the Aquatic Centre, and now that I'm a member I am reluctant to move to somewhere too far away.

Along with the faint smell of chlorine in my hair, I am inspired to write about this today because I've heard some people questioning the logic of Quispamsis's qPlex proposal and the inclusion of an outdoor pool in the design. I agree that an indoor pool facility would allow for year round access and membership fees (I joined the Aquatic Centre in the winter) and might make for a better project. I do however think the idea of providing a pool to the community is a good idea. Personally, I was more inclined to join a gym (and hopefully become a healthier person and citizen) because of the Aquatic Centre pools.

While I realize that a lot of parents feel team sports and ice surfaces are valuable, I think a greater scope of recreational opportunities including pools and walking tracks will allow for greater activity by a more diverse population - hopefully allowing for healthier citizens.
