One Change

The CBC reports on a City Council decision to transfer responsibility for the North End Community Centre to ONE Change.

Letting a group that has staked out a role as improver of the Old North End community take over the community centre seems like a good step.

What’s the future Saint John?

There is a new place on Facebook to engage with ideas about the future of the Saint John Region: What’s the Future Saint John?  Writer and journalist Lisa Hrabluk is running the project, as part of her company Wicked Ideas (this has all been cribbed from the Facebook Page).

On Saturday September 22, 2012 there is a forum being held to discuss ideas about Saint John’s priorities at UNBSJ. Details below and on the Facebook Page:

The Paramount documentary

“This is not a film to encourage people to save old buildings, but to appreciate, value and not take them for granted” explains Greg Hemming, the Producer/Director of The Paramount in a recent press release.

The Paramount documentary will air on CBC Atlantic on August 25, 2012 at 8pm and explores the efforts to revitalize the old theatre that site on the edge of King Square.

A promotional video about the doc is on Vimeo:

Habitat Build

I haven’t posted about this Habitat for Humanity Saint John build yet. Located on Omega Drive in East SJ, it looks like work will continue later in the year.

I’ve done a few Habitat deconstruction, but never a build.  I will have to get volunteering with them again this year.c
