After a period of decline it is encouraging to see the Mitchell Street Apartments undergoing renovations:

Old North End Playgound

The Old North End playground is well underway:

YMCA progress from the back

Here is the back of the YMCA being constructed in the north end.

New Retail on Somerset

Adjacent the Superstore on Somerset Street a new foundation is in place as a new retail building is being constructed. 

Churchill Boulevard development

In 2008 public owned housing along Churchill Boulevard was torn down.  The housing was deemed to be unsuitable.  The public expected something better to take its place.

In 2014 the YMCA broke ground and is filling the lot that was once home to many Saint Johners.

Now across the street excavation has started. In a March 28, 2014 article on the CBC senior’s housing was mentioned as a potential use of land in the area.

I imagine there will be a formal sod turning soon if the housing has government backing.

Apartment Construction– Harrington Street

I don’t know if I’ve posted any pictures of this 12 unit building going up in the north end (Harrington Street).  It seems the pace of work has picked up in the last while (or I just noticed).

C.E. Nick Nicolle Community Centre–North End

If the outside is a good indication, the C.E. Nick Nicolle community centre in the Old North End has been transformed for the better.  The space looks like its brighter (bigger windows) and more inviting to the community.

Congratulations on all the great work to the folks at ONE Change.

North End Community Centre

ONE Change was given the opportunity to revitalize the North End Community Centre earlier this year.
