Scrap

I've often heard that there is a significant market for certain types of scrap (particularly copper). I have witnessed first hand what this motivates. There has been a string of people climbing into the former YMCA demolition site and loading up on copper and other scraps. I saw two guys with tools loading a pick up with bricks.

What does copper sell for on the scrap market? How about bricks? Or are people taking the bricks to use?

In the US right now, On the market, pure copper is selling for about $2.10 a pound, and aluminum about $1.05. Scrap copper, such as pipe and wire, is fetching between $1.30 to $1.80 a pound. I imagine it is similar in Canada
