South end/uptown walk
I went for a walk this evening from my apartment (North of Union) into and around the south end to look at a real estate listing I'm interested in. I have to get out for more walks through my neighbourhood - I enjoy participating in the city on the ground. Once I get my bike tuned up I might go for more trips through the area.
I saw some noteworthy things this evening. I saw a huge lot on Queen Street that would be great for housing or a community garden. I think if I lived down that way, I would love to see that site developed with a garden or a small park.
I also saw that there are more townhouses with ground level garages going up in the neighbourhood. On a particularly steep part of Wentworth Street three units are well on their way to being complete.
After reading in the paper today about how the old paramount theatre was becoming more unsightly I took a walk by. It is clear from the broken glass panels that the building is starting to deteriorate, but the deterioration seems to be revealing brick walls underneath. If there is quality brick under that mirrored facade, I could see an owner or tenant wanting to restore what's underneath.
The last thing of note that I encountered was a clean up being done by the Vineyard Church in the south end. They were cleaning around their church building and it looked like a positive way to be spending Earth Day.
