Pedestrian

I have limited experience targeting tourists. I spent one summer selling photos near the board walk on days I didn’t have classes, but that’s about it. Thus these opinions might require a reality check.

I think a pedestrian mall would be a good way to feature heritage in the uptown and to encourage tourists to shop and spend time in the areas where much of the preservation efforts are being put.

If the block on Prince William Street from Princess to King was closed to traffic and business owners could spill out onto the street (with larger patios and product displays) this area could become more of a “place to be.”

Right now the block has several boutique shops and restaurants that could benefit from this if it’s well implemented. They could also be hurt if drive up and park customers are a big part of what they do, so study is needed.

If this were done well and shoppers spend more in the area other businesses targeting the sort of customers who shop at this open area pedestrian mall will want in, possibility pushing up rents, giving the owners of the heritage building sin the area financial incentive to continue beautifying their buildings and the area.
