Church of St. Andrew St. David: model developer

The TJ ran an editorial today complimenting the Church of St. Andrew St. David for the way it is engaging the community in the lead up to building a mixed income multi-family development. Highlights include:

  • "You have to hand it to the Church of St. Andrew and St. David, which is trying to develop affordable housing on a bleak surface parking lot uptown."
  • "The church is doing its development differently. Officials already have the proper zoning in place, and likely do not have to go through a public hearing process. But they're still holding a public meeting."
  • "If more developers took the time to consult with neighbours, there would be far less opposition to big housing projects. The city would also be much more likely to approve them. The Church of St. Andrew and St. David should be commended for being such a savvy developer."

I see this as a positive development and it's good to see the media is giving credit where it is due.
