According to the Globe and Mail (See Article), the federal government is considering the privatization the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

This seems like a drastic step that should only be taken if CMHC can continue supporting the community without concerns over profit margin. The organization has lost its way somewhat in that it is less involved in direct housing initiatives and more active in the mortgage insurance side of housing.

This could open up an interesting debate on the role of the agency.
