Housing

Progressive housing solutions are key to making Saint John and other industrial cities in transition welcoming and healthy places to live. Here are some numbers on what is being done in Saint John.

Between 1998 and 2004 Habitat of Humanity Saint John was involved in building 7 houses with another completed in 2005. Habitat is starting another build in Saint John's downtown. According to one long time Habitat volunteer neighbourhoods are often improved when Habitat builds, by creating a since of pride and ownership.

In addition to the work of Habitat, 345 units of housing (in 38 separate buildings) are in the portfolio of Saint John Non-Profit Housing. Still, there are many in Greater Saint John who are unable to attain affordable housing.

According to the Human Development Council "Community Service Database" there are numerous other organizations working on this front including Saint John Housing Alternatives.
