Downtown downturn – it’s the poor!

I keep returning to this article on the CBC to read comments on what Downtown Moncton needs to attract more foot traffic and business.

Apparently panhandlers are the problem.  If these impoverished folks didn’t ask for spare change, people would shun Wal-mart, Costco et. al. and spend their shopping dollars downtown.

One comment leaving citizen wrote about how bad the pan-handling problem is in their mind: there are folks outside of churches asking for change.

Hopefully the churches hear the call for change on their doorsteps and provide more than coins.
