City apologized for slow snow removal

This was on the city's website:

SNOW CONTROL OPERATIONS: SATURDAY, JANUARY 31ST TO WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH

Issued by the Communications Department, City of Saint John on behalf of Paul Groody, Commissioner,
Municipal Operations and Engineering
Winter weather can be difficult for a community and challenging for the people working to keep streets and sidewalks open. This winter has been more difficult than most, particularly over the past month or so; extreme cold temperatures have been interspersed with short periods of thawing and rain. The freeze-thaw-freeze conditions, with the ice formed from record cold, are hard on snow control operations and equipment.
We ask for the cooperation of the public and business owners as we work through the remainder of the winter. Making Saint John a livable winter city requires that we work together to deal with the realities of Mother Nature; aligning our energies. We should expect to experience some potentially tough conditions and a level of inconvenience before the snow and ice melt away in the spring.
More snow and snow-rain mix are expected over the next few days; with relatively mild temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. As the weather warms, expect accumulations of water in low sections of streets. Icing will also make sidewalks more treacherous as temperatures drop later in the week.
A concentrated operation will be put into effect over the next 4 to 5 days, involving a full deployment of personnel and equipment, and the assistance of contracted resources. We will focus on ice cutting and snow removal from priority areas, most notably school zones and areas prone to flooding. For example, an emphasis will be placed on the Glen Falls neighbourhood. Additional people and equipment will also be deployed to clear catch basins and drainage courses.
Depending on the snowfall, a full plowing effort could be required during this period.
The public’s assistance is requested. What can you do?
1. Be patient and be careful.
2. Do not block sidewalks with snow from your property.
3. Do not park vehicles on or across sidewalks; vehicles so placed will be towed away.
4. Get your vehicles off the street wherever that is possible.
5. Clear ice and snow from the catch basin and the fire hydrant closest to your home.
6. Cooperate and work with our crews; they are out there in your service.
7. Residents of the South Peninsula are reminded to call 658 4040 or listen to local radio for notifications of snow bans.
8. If you live on a street with alternate side parking, please adhere to the guidelines.

The City of Saint John thanks you for your cooperation and assistance.
