Future of Tucker Park

The City of Saint John is considering a proposal by a developer to purchase and develop Tucker Park. There are concerned being expressed by some in the community that turning over the park to a private party could reduce the public access to the Kennebecasis River. There aren't many parks on the River, as many of the prime locations along the waterway from Saint John to Quispamsis are developed with residential properties.

I think keeping the public access to the River is important. Posted below are some photos of the park and the river (from the park) that I have taken over the years.

As your photos show Tucker Park is one of the last remaining public access points woth a beautiful beach on the Kennebecasis River - the rush to develop big$$$ housing with the sale of 12.5 hectares of this land to Percy Wilbur with the promise he has to give us a worthy park out of his own pocket is a mistake of the greatest proportion. Lets keep the land owned by the city for future use and keep the park in taxpayer hands for generations to come . ( please do not call me anti-development - there is more to his plan than meets the eye- watch for the print media to back him 100%
