Why house those in need?

I searched the Government of New Brunswick’s website looking for a list of objectives that exist to gauge the success of various housing programs in the province. Failing to find such a list I have constructed my own. These are the goals that I expect a responsible social housing program would want to keep in mind to provide:

  • Safe housing for those in need; and
  • Provide affordable housing for those in need

This housing would be provided so that tenants are able (when possible) to:

  • Stabilize a safe family environment;
  • Obtains education/training to facilitate entry/reentry into job market;
  • Obtain gainful employment;
  • Become emotionally healthy;
  • Become active members of the larger community;
  • Avoid criminal behaviour; and/or
  • Have a safe, stable home life for the long-term when tenant’s economic hardship cannot be overcome.

I feel that in a compassionate society we should be willing and able to provide housing for those in need for as long as they need it. I understand that economic hardship breeds further economic hardship in communities and families. By aiming to provide housing for people in need so that they can address other problems in their lives, we can hope to make the lives of those living in poverty better.

Then move them close to what they need and not what we people from out of town thinks they need

What is wrong with this City?We need to house those in need.We need to house them where those in need ,need to be.Where they need to be is close to all the items that they need in every day life.We do not need to fill a empty parking lot.We need to get the need closer to what they need.

Hopefully these or similar goals become part of the framework with which the province supports and funds projects.
