Not a bump in the road
Gas prices haven't done enough to slow down drivers. Some municipalities looking for inexpensive means to encourage slower driving have turned to simulated speed bumps. The bumps are in reality flat plastic panels painted to look like three-dimensional bumps and placed on roads to encourage drivers to proceed with caution.
The biggest setback of these faux-bumps appears to be the fact that drivers who slowly proceed over the pictures the first time, learn and remember that they were fooled, and might not be as cautious the next time around.
