Importance of culture to municipal growth

I read an article by Nelson Hansen in [here] that held this piece of wisdom:

  • "Events like Salty Jam not only entertain residents of their host city, they also help people deciding where to live in Canada make decisions on their new hometown. Saint John has identified a need to grow its population and its tax base by attracting new residents and quality of life plays into that equation."

Culture is important in attracting and retaining people. I imagine the Salty Jam event will draw good crowds again this year and will hopefully survive and thrive.
