New wetlands policy
The Province has responded to widespread criticism of their new wetland protection policy by scaling back the testing requirements for developers. The CBC reports that the maps released earlier this year that showed around 18% of the province as requiring further study to determine if these areas were wetland are being shelved in favour of maps that put this at around 6%.
Until this year developers were only required to deal with wetlands issues on 4% of land in NB.

There's a lot of confusion surrounding the wetlands issue! Since 2002 developers were required to deal with wetlands that were identified on the ground, NOT 4% this was a fairly arbitrary figure based on air photo interpreted wetland NOT what was actually on the ground. All that aside the ministers decision will have grave consequences for the environmental protection.
