Friends of Rockwood continue fighting Rockwood Park development
The Friends of Rockwood Park made a presentation before City Council where they provided a thorough rebuttal to plans to develop portions of what is historically and culturally know as Rockwood Park. A member of the group sent me the presentation and encouraged me to share some of their information.
I pulled out this illustration as it strikes me as particularly interesting.
The Friends of Rockwood Park showed council that there are many other places available for short term development in the area of Rockwood Park. It is reasonable to wonder why there is a need to increase the inventory of land on the market by selling portions of the land in (or around) the park.
I realize that there may be a segment of the population who would spend money to live on a formerly pristine lake (perhaps someone like this). Still, with so many lots already on the market, or ready to go on the market in the Rockwood Park area, is it reasonable to expect a developer to deliver massive amounts of new development dollars and taxes?
Why will a developer who is willing to develop land that has been cherished as part of our park system succeed at selling out a subdivision when others haven’t?
