Historic Places Initiative
In case you don’t always make it to the Salon Section of the Saturday paper I wanted to point out this article: The middle of somewhere
The article discusses how historic places in NB qualify to become nationally registered Historic Places. As someone who often debates with myself about the best way to preserve our past, I found this part of the article partularly meaningful:
Part of that growth involves expanding our idea of heritage. 'Façade-ism' is a common problem with heritage designation.
"It doesn't have to be beautiful to be important," he notes. "Just because the bank building has pillars doesn't mean it's the most important building in the community."
