“We don't belong on this list and we shouldn't be on this list”
Here weekly has been improving lately – or least its been able to make me reference it more, forcing me to admit its merit.
The latest worth-reading piece of writing I will alert you to is entitled Saint John rocks! and covers some reaction to Saint John showing up in the in bottom thirty percent of a survey of city quality done by Roger’s media-conglomerate owned MoneySense magazine.
The best section of the here article contains two quotes from local musician (and former classmate of this blogger), Adam Mowery. Regarding the list:
"It's a yuppie list, is what it is. You won't see any poor people in any of these top cities, and they don't back up anything they print. It's a stupid, yuppie, shitty list, and what the f--k is MoneySense anyways?"
and
"What Saint John has that other places don't is character. What's Moncton got - a hill and a bridge? We don't belong on this list and we shouldn't be on this list."
Mowery’s response and my general opinion of my hometown is inconsistent with MoneySense’s result. I guess we’ll have to settle for being happy even if we’re 86 rankings from being the best. In 2009 SJ was ranked the happiest city in Canada. DNTO covered that, which is far hipper than MoneySense anyway.
