Alternate Pedestrian route for Harbour Passage during bridge repairs

From the City’s Harbour Bridge project website:hpaltroute

While clearly necessary for safety and logistics needs, this route adds just under a half kilometre if one wanted to walk from Market Square to Green Lee Shoes, or a similar type starting point and destination.

I get that they have to close part of it, but the alternate route does not feel very safe when you're walking it. I walk to and from work everyday, south end to main street. The drivers are not used to seeing pedestrians along the route and although there are crosswalks across main street and along the viaduct, they're not paying attention and they're going at quite a clip. Three days in, I've nearly been hit twice.

I was complaining about the passage closure to a family member who has a transportation engineering background and he couldn't come up with a better solution, but you are right, the alternate path is far from ideal.
