Surplus city land
94.1 FM has a story about the City looking to make more land available for development. The idea is to sell surplus land to developers to make some immediate cash and hopefully see future tax revenue from developments.
The story talks about one council hoping to use policies of selling off land as a means of focusing growth in a more centralized area.
With the new municipal plan not completed hopefully land is only sold for developments that are responsible and responsive to community wants and needs.
Also, I would guess that a lot of the surplus land the city has is not in prime central areas, so developments might be longer term or minimally impactful in reaching a population density goal.
One final thought on this – there are plenty of developers with plenty of land, so these parcels of City land will be competing for developer dollars – so there is no guarantee that this policy will drastically change the development landscape.
