Planning ethics
Brian White of ADI alerted me of the code of ethics followed by planners. He let me know that his organization follows these rules to create policy opinions that are in the public interest. ADI, according to White, is comfortable that they are following the rules and indicated that they are willing to stand up to scrutiny.
While I earlier challenged the tone of the consultation process, I do hope and trust that ADI will create a document reflective of public interest at the end of the Rockwood Park use review. As discussed in the comments on an earlier post, moderation is key to good public meetings and the ADI team was filling the role of moderator.
I respect that Mr. White was willing to contact me and stand up for his profession. I commend him for this.
I hope these planners are both able to create a document that protects our park. I also hope they are able to manage perception and leave the community comfortable that they were heard.
I’ll also remind readers that I am not an actual urban planner, just someone who likes to spout off about issues around development. So don’t take my word as gospel - this blog is only one person’s opinion and is sometimes coloured by my desire to engage the community in discussion and debate on topics I’m interested in.
