ACAP Saint John's Public Forum on Riparian Zones on the Lower St. John and Kennebecasis River, to be held Saturday, March 20th. This forum endeavors to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to explain the roles and responsibilities of key regulatory agencies, solicit specific examples of riparian degradation, and to foster the partnerships needed to address riparian conservation and enhancement on a going forward basis.

The scenic vistas of the lower St. John River have for decades been a focal point of transportation, residential development and recreation, with the heavily vegetated riparian zones acting to protect and buffer the aquatic environment from the effects of land-based anthropogenic activities. In recent years, community stakeholders have become increasingly vocal about the rate at which the remaining riparian areas are being removed, and the perceived lack of regulatory enforcement to conserve these ecological transition zones.
