Peel Plaza development road bump
I believe that responsible social programs, along with effective policing is good for our community. I also tend to believe policing officials that suggest that the current police headquarters, located in the City Hall office tower, does not facilitate an effective modern police force.
On the other hand, I’ve been concerned about the costs of Peel Plaza, including the financial cost and the challenges this project has placed on maintaining and utilizing heritage and prime real estate.
Peel Plaza has many critics – many who post on the Telegraph Journal comments pages. Some of these critics seem to be bolstered by the recent news that none of the short listed P3 developers chosen to bid on Peel Plaza have submitted bids. City officials say they are trying to salvage the bidding process, or might go forward with the project using traditional tendering.
My first thought on this new development is that if private developers don’t see this as a profitable or safe investment, perhaps the project should be redesigned. However, the province, according to News889 is expecting the city to move forward with Peel Plaza as proposed, integrating the police station and parking with the Province’s new Justice Complex.
This should be interesting.
