These shots are less than legible, but they advertise an event that will focus on National Housing Day. The event, on November 19th, isn’t something I’ve heard of before, but there are signs posted on the block of Germain Street south of King Street. I will endeavor to find out more.

I doubt all this is free to put on, what do they expect to accomplish with this? Looks like a party celebrating homelessness. When in fact, there really are no homeless here.If your homeless in Saint John..you must be a drug addict or an alcoholic very bad, theres a million programs out there for people in need.
The housing issue goes beyond putting a roof over the heads of teh homeless. It it important that a community can provide adequate affordable housing.
As for the idea that the only ones who struggles have drug and alcohol problems - I doubt this is 100% accurate - and even if it is, I believe we as a society still have a role to play in addressing this need.
The events are being put on with the help of many sponsors. The idea of the events are to raise awareness that homelessness and housing are an issue here in Saint John. It can happen to anyone - not just those with addictions, there are many individuals with mental health issues, or people who live in substandard housing, or people who just have one thing happen (loss of a job, death of a spouse, etc.) and find themselves in this situation.
For more information on the events or homelessness/housing in Saint John you can call the Human Development Council at 634-1673. They will put you in touch with the Committee organizing these events.
Thank you for spreading the word...the only way we can raise awareness is to get people out who don't understand the scope of the problem here in Saint John.
