Rainbow park funding

rainbow park sep 3 1rainbow park sep 3 2 The last time I posted about Rainbow Park a commentor suggested that investment in South End recreation was futile, due to high crime and poverty.

I am more optimistic. Funding is coming together, so we soon shall see how well such an upgrade will do.

According to 94.1 FM news, it seems the Federal Government is willing to put up funds to support the South End.  The government is putting up $250,000, topping up significant funding from the city.

That is really great news, my hope is they link up Harbout Passage to the park and make it easy and safe for foot and bike traffic to get there, don't spend too much on doo-dads...

High crime and poverty is the exact reason more money should be spent on improving (and adding) parks, adding recreation facilities, and improving after school programs. If you write off an area as worthless, you create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The abandoned tennis courts and the shoddy state of the rest of the park should be an embarrassment to the city.

It wouldn't really be just the investment in the park it self, but the follow up investment in programs that would utilize the new people infrastructure.
