Shamrock Park Master Plan & Bike Trails
I was reading the City of Saint John’s Tenders and Proposals website and came across the Shamrock Park Master Plan as part of one of the tender calls. I’m not sure how long the document will stay online, but here’s a link.
Above is an overview picture from the Glenn Group designed master plan. There is some information in the plan about what is desired for the BMX/Mountain Bike park component. The tender for constructing the park closes June 18, with consultations starting soon after.
Here’s what the Master Plan says about the bike park (original spelling):
2.13.1 Mountain Bike Trails
The boom in on/off road cycling has generated a
demand for trails withing urban boundaries. Trails
within the city can be accessed by youth. As an official
Olympic Venue, mountain biking is one of the fastest
growing recreation trends. Participants are looking
for a challenging experience in close contact with
nature that offers escape, fun, exercise, and a sense
of companionship. The wooded area in the north end
of the park provides a good range of terrain to suit
all skill levels. Mountain biking is still evolving as an
activity and its participants take many forms, including
cross-country riders, mountain riders, down-hillers,
free riders, and dirt jumpers. Shamrock Park can be
a good training ground for all of these types. A three
tiered approach to trail development is recommended
to support all skill levels, as outlined in Figure 2.2.
2.13.2 BMX Pump Track
A “Pump Track” is a continuous loop of berms and
smooth bumps called “Rollees”. Ruiders generate speed
by “pumping” the terrain – absorbing the frontside of
Rollees and compressing on the back. The purpose of
a pump track is to both practise skills for novice riders
and hone skills for experts. It’s a great place to safely
learn the skills that are necessary to advance to the more
challenging trails and technical features. The track can
accommodate up to 15 riders at one time.
Here’s a sketch of what the bike trails would look like from above.

Interesting. The only thing I know about Shamrock Park is what I've heard from coworkers which all seems to amount to: don't go there.
Of course, I've also had coworkers tell me not to walk further east than Wentworth Street.

Awesome. I'm not sure the best place to park, but here is the park shown on Google Maps link:
