Rothesay Heritage bylaw creates difficulty
The story of the Dexter house on Gondola Point Road in Rothesay has been going on for a while now.
Briefly: the house - located in the Rothesay Heritage zone - was left vacant, there was water damage and an oil spill. The owners of the estate wish to remove the house and clean the site. The Town of Rothesay has said no; the house can't be sold until it is listed on the market for a "fair market value" that the town agrees with. If the house doesn't sell, the family can tear it down. Meanwhile the province is demanding that the oil spill be cleaned.
The Telegraph Journal reported the owner son's frustration today:
"Do we tear it down and be in violation of municipal bylaws
or not tear it down and be in violation of a provincial order?" Murphy said.
"This is what we have to deal with. We're going to get fined either way."
The best line of the article also comes from the owner's son (Steve Murphy):
"The town doesn't seem to be taking this seriously, it all
seems to be about how we fill out paperwork,"

This makes me sick as usual the snobs of Rothesay put image in front of safety and logic.Oil spilled into the ground water beside a river.Who has their heads that far up their a** that they obstruct the owners from doing "the right thing" by tearing down and cleaning up.More than ROTHESAY is affected on the river system.
