Howard LeBillois CBC Interview

South End resident and activist Howard LeBillois was interviewed on the CBC about the proposed Tannery Court development. LeBillois has posted to his blog the interviews where he talks about why he and other neighbours believe that constructing a 51 unit building where 50 low income non-elderly singles will live with a building manager is a less than ideal solution to a lack of housing for those living in poverty. LeBillois points out that there are several low-income housing properties in the neighbourhood that house members of this diverse community.
The Moncton developer behind the project spoke about how this development will provide better housing for residents who will be screened before they can move in. The developer also suggested that is difficult to rent market units in developments with non-elderly singles. In Planning Advisory Committee minutes, the developer cited the inability to rent 4 apartments in a similar development they constructed in Moncton, but did not cite Saint John examples to support this assertion.
