Harbour clean up (waste water treatmnet)

The city is one step closer to having a cleaner harbour. The head of municipal operations with the City of Saint John has signed off on plans for the eastern portion of our waste water treatment system (article on 94 FM news blog).

This system will divert and treat much of the untreated wastewater that currently goes directly into the harvour. This large infrastructure project is being supported by all levels of government and should help create a cleaner inner harbour and healthier wetlands around the Marsh Creek.

According to the RFP on the city's website, this is what the project will require:

The project site is located at #441Red Head Road (site of existing Hazen Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant) in Saint John, N.B. The work consists generally of the construction of a 35,000 m³ per day conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment facility.

The work is to be completed 800 calendar days after execution of the contract by the City.
