Comex Commuter Bus Ride

I took the KV Express bus today for a second time.

This time I’m taking the 6:25 bus that stops at McAllister Place Mall. The crowd starting at King Square is pretty small, no more than ten people and few more picked up before we left the uptown. One more person boarded at McAllister Place Mall.

I’m glad to be a city boy with less than a kilometre from home to my office, but tonight I went to meet a friend in Rothesay who borrowed my car.

I never took a non-school or tour bus until recently; public transit wasn’t in the cards coming from a two car home and now having my own sedan it has been pretty comfortable to travel alone and on my own schedule. Still, I’m working on my personal green shift and am trying to incorporate mass transit into my lifestyle.

For $3.00 I am able to be transported from the city over 20 kilometres to my destination in the Valley; it seems like a pretty decent deal considering gas prices and wear and tear on my car. If I lived in KV I think the commuter bus would be a part of my daily life, more so if I lived in Hampton.

On suggestion I could make to Saint John transit is that it would be great they incorporated wifi internet connectivity into the buses (if the technology is feasible and economical). I could have posted this live rather than typing it into my word processor for later upload.

I saw on the news a few days ago that there are buses for longer trips that are offering wifi now. My guess is the technology can transfer quite easily. Cost might be an issue for city buses where you only pay a few dollars rather than whatever it costs for a ticket from Saint John to Ottawa.

All new buses being purchased will have Wifi according to a SJT presentation to council.
