Motor Tourism and the Fundy Trail

I think the Fundy Footpath across the Big Salmon River from the current Fundy Trail is a natural gem and should be appreciated as such. However, public policy has lead to the construction of an $11 million bridge across the river and the addition of a road along the undeveloped side of the river.
During the CBC news this morning they started with a story about how there are fewer tourists coming into the province this summer due to fuel and economic conditions. A few stories later they reported that the bridge and a half kilometer stretch of the road will be ready this Fall. Additionally, a tender call for the next several kilometer stretch has been released.
The province's tourism policy in regard to the Fundy Trail Parkway, seems to be "build it and they will come." The plans for this extension have been years in the making and might not be logical with fuel prices going up.
Before this project goes any further, Tourism NB ought to do some serious thinking about whether or not this road construction works for the province.
