Retail energy efficiency

Walmart Canada is planning on installing a solar panel system on a store in Markham, Ontario to provide heat and electricity for the retailer's operations. According to an article in the Toronto Star Walmart has received a forgivable loan from the Ontario provincial government to mobilize the project.

With the retail development in Saint John on the Horizon - both in the east side power centre and on the west side - it would be interesting to see some innovative technology being used to help mitigate the carbon and other environmental footprints of such projects. With this in mind, someone involved with east side retail might want to talk to Kristy Hogsden a biologist who today pointed out in the Telegraph Journal that some of the retail development in the east side has already made a negative impact on the health of local wetland.
