'Plucky Saint John has never given up the dream'

Globe and Mail writer Shawna Richard has captured the idea of Saint John that I subscribe to in her article entitled Reversing Fortunes in the line: "plucky Saint John has never given up the dream of returning to its glory days."

The article is very positive regarding the industrial development in Saint John, especially the proposed refinery.

The article is a forward-looking piece that extols the potential in Saint John's future.

Interestingly, when comparing the cost of living in New Brunswick to that of the west, the article uses Saint John and Fredericton for its comparison with Calgary and Edmonton (likely because the article is about Saint John and Fredericton is the capital, but whenever Moncton is left off something like this I take note).

Here is there comparison (I had to change the format a bit to work in this post, the original on page 2 of the article linked above):

Maybe Moncton was left out because it's so bizarre. Frankly, the whole place gives me the heebie-jeebies
